ELA - Week of January 4th-8th

 I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will hit 2016 running--- full sped ahead.
This week we will review the sentences we have done in the Practice Island book. There will be a test  over the first 10 sentences on Thursday the seventh.
Note: They will receive a Spelling Tic Tac Toe paper for their spelling activities this week.

Spelling Words :    
              1)      hoax - trick
                    2 )      batty – crazy
                    3)      spiteful – mean and hateful
                    4)      rapped – knocked
                    5)      sulking – pouting
                    6)      sledge – sleigh
                    7)      Shetland ponies – very small but strong horses
                    8)      “pray” – tell me
                    9)      hereafter – from now on
                  10)  rug – a blanket used to cover one’s leg
                  11)  groping – feeling about in the dark
                  12)  dominions – land under the rule of a king or queen
                  13)  Turkish Delight – a kind of candy that is similar to gummy bears  
                  14)  Son of Adam – human boy
                  15)  nobles – officials of lower rank beneath a king or queen
                  16)  flushed – red and uneasy or upset
                  17)  mantel – a large cloak
                  18)  snappishly – in an impatient, bad-tempered way
                  19)  spectacles – eyeglasses

Complete three activities following the rules of tic-tac-toe (three in a row.) Make an “X” on each box that you complete. All activities are due on Friday. Staple all three activities to this sheet.
Spelling Words: hoax, batty, spiteful, rapped, sulking, sledge, Shetland ponies, pray, hereafter, rug, groping, dominions, Turkish Delight, Son of Adam, nobles, flushed,  mantel, snappishly, spectacles, trippers
 Write the words across the page and then down the page.

Make a table sorting each spelling word according to parts of speech.
Example:
Dog – noun
Run - verb
Draw and color a picture. Hide the spelling words inside your picture.
Create fractions to represent the number of vowels and consonants in each word.
Example: friend
Vowels =2/6
Consonants = 4/6
Write the words in reverse ABC order
Make an acrostic poem with each spelling word.
Example: read
Red
Elephant
Ant
Dog

Write the words and then write at least 2 words made from each.     
Example: friend
                dine
                end
Write the spelling words in the form of shapes. You can use more than one word to make a shape.
Write a question for each of the spelling words. Underline or highlight the spelling words.
