History/ Literature / ELA Week of May 23-25

It is hard to believe that this year has ended. You child will hold a special place in my heart.  I will truly miss them and I wish them success in their educational career.

Remember that the last day May 25th is half a day and that is our party day.

History:  We will make and play the game "On The Appian Way" where the students will answer trivia questions about the Appian Way.

ELA: We will review the Elements of Poetry and write a poem.

Literature: We  will discuss the books that we have read and talk about our favorite book.

History: We will be making a volcano shaped book about Mount Vesuvius, We will discuss the daily life of Ancient Rome. We will create a Bulla and a Roman cookbook.

Literature: We will finish the book "Detectives in Togas"

ELA: We will be discussing the elements of poetry and write some poetry.

Mrs. Carroll May 9-13, 2016

This week in Chemistry we will follow the scientific method with a "gummy bear" lab.  One will be placed in water, another will be placed in salt water, and the third will not be in a solution.  We will determine the mass, length, width, height, and thickness of the gummy bear before placed in the assigned cup.  The next day we will record observations and measure each one again and complete the data sheet.  We might repeat the experiment with sour gummy bears later in the week!

Remember: Friday the 13th is field day. It is also EARLY RELEASE.

History:  We should finish our timeline this week. We will also finish the Greek pockets.This week we will compare the Ancient Greek and Roman Daily life and Education. Even though we are not making the Roman History pockets, we will make and discuss a lot of information in those pockets.

Literature:   We will read and discuss chapters 18-19 in "Detectives  in Togas".

ELA: We will not have any more spelling words;  however we will be reviewing the words that we have had this year.  We will learn about the stem POST, PORT, and DISC.

Chemistry May 2-6, 2016

This week we will continue identifying the metals and nonmetals on the periodic table of elements.  We are also reviewing skills we learned throughout the school year.  Students will practice the scientific method by doing a Gummy Bear Lab and completing a lab report..

History / Literature/ ELA Week of May 2-6

Reminder  - Muffins for Moms is this Friday the 6th.

History - We are working on our timeline. We will also discuss  Sports and Entertainment for Ancient Greek.  

Literature - "Detectives in Togas" - we will be reading and discussing Chapters 16-18. We have almost finish chapter 16.

ELA:  They will write a stem story using the stems that we have learned. We will also Lean about the stem SPEC and SUPER. We will have a quiz on Wednesday on the stems learned.

Spelling and Vocabulary

History/ Literature/ ELA Week of 4/25/16

Note: the date for Muffins for Moms  has been changed to May 6th
Tuesday April 26th - Mayborn Museum. The kids have been looking forward to this field trip. Please note: They will need $4.00 to get into the museum. In addition they will need money for lunch and if the want something from the museum gift shop.

History: We will be spending the next several weeks creating a time-line over the time period that we studied. We will also finish up our Greek History pockets and do a lot of comparison between Ancient Greek and Rome.

Literature: We will be reading Chapter 14 & 15 in "Detectives in Togas"

ELA: We will be working in the "Building Language" book. We will be discussing the Stems SUB, DE, and EX.

Bible and Chemistry April 18 - 22, 2016

In Bible this week we will learn about the fall of the Kingdom of Judah and review the long list of Kings of Judah (good and bad).

In Chemistry, we will learn about the chemical reaction of photosynthesis.

Please remember that the Trash to Treasure project is due on Thursday, April 21.  This school-wide project is for a grade; if you don't turn in a project you will get a zero (sad face).

History / Literature / ELA -------Week of April 11-15

Third Grade is having their class field trip on April 26. We are going to the Mayborn Museum. Look for Permission slips to go home next week. The cost of the Museum will be $4.00 The students will need to bring money for lunch. Ms. Scott has volunteered to drive.


History - This week in History we will discover why the Roman Empire Split and find out who Constantine was.
Literature: We are still reading and discussing  Detectives in Togas. 
ELA - We will be starting a new book - Building Language - Therefore you will see more homework from Practice Island.

**Friday- There will be both a spelling test and a grammar test. the grammar test will be over sentences 72,78,82,83,and 85.**
On Friday there will also be an open book history test that they will not need to study for. It will be pulling information from the book and will be very similar to the hand-out that we will do in class.

This week we will continue to learn about polymers - making bouncy balls and a few other fun examples!  We will also learn about polymers that contain sugars.

On Tuesday, our Bible lesson will focus on our Risen Lord - we will join the second graders on a "Resurrection Egg Hunt" and enjoy a few special treats provided by Mrs. Carroll.  Throughout the week, we will review the kings of Israel and Judah.

Bible/Chemistry February 29 - March 4, 2016

This week in Bible, we will continue to learn about the Kings of Judah (a few were good, but most were bad!) - but we already know that all of the Kings of Israel were evil.

In Chemistry, we will review mixtures and solutions - we were introduced to solutions earlier, but we will identify solutes and solvent in experiments.
