Chemistry and Bible

This week in Chemistry we will conduct a series of experiments to observe chemical reactions.  Of course, these will be fun activities, but each student is expected to write one lab report about one of the lab activities.  I will give you the outline on Tuesday and the report should be completed by next Tuesday (February 9).

In Bible, we will continue to learn about King Solomon and the wisdom God gave him.  We will read and discuss some of the Proverbs written by Solomon.

This week we will learn about the Greek columns, draw an Amphora Jar, create a fresco and learn about the Geek Philosophers. We will continue to review our notes on the gifts that Ancient Greek and Rome gave us and some of the events that took place during that time. This information is in their History notebook. 

Literature

We will read and discuss chapters 14 & 15.


ELA
The Grammar Test will be Tuesday Feb. 2nd. We will review on Monday.
We will also be working on Sentences 31-39 this week.

History/Literature Week of January 25

Note: We have a field trip to CAC  ( Magic Theatre) on Tuesday January 26. We will leave the school at 10:00.

This week in History we will compare the gifts and events of Ancient Greek and Ancient Rome. We will learn about Pericles and the Peloponnesian War, complete a project by writing a newspaper article for Athens or Sparta,  design a library with one of the  Greek Columns, and creating an under the sea fresco.


In Literature, we will be reading and discussing Chapters 11 & 12


Chemistry and Bible January 25 - 29, 2016

This week in chemistry we will review ionic bonds and covalent bonds.  We will do an experiment to break covalent bonds.  We will also compare and contrast ionic and covalent bonds.  There will not be a quiz but we will continue to work on vocabulary.

In Bible, we will learn the details of the Temple that King Solomon built.

History/ Literature Week of January 18th-22nd

 I hope that everyone had a nice day off.

This week in History we will be studying the Art and Architecture of the Ancient Greek by creating a pop-up book of the Parthenon, drawing the different Greek Columns, and creating an under the sea fresco. We will start the week of completing the Trireme.
On Wed. there is a test on the Prophets of God. There are 9 prophecies that they will match to the prophet. They have cards they have been studying.




In Literature, we will be reading and discussing Chapters 10-11

Chemistry and Bible January 11 - 15, 2016Dots

This week in Chemistry we are learning about the Octet Rule - it is very interesting, and it explains how atoms bond.  We will work with elements in certain areas of the periodic table to determine how many electrons they have in their outer orbits, or valence.  We will write Lewis Dot diagrams to illustrate the structure.

In Bible, we learn that King David committed some very serious sins - not the happiest of stories, but the lesson is that each of us must confess our sins to God, and we will be forgiven.

History/ Literature Week of January 11-15

This week in History we will learn about the development of the Roman Republic and also about the Persian War. We will have a test on Tuesday the 12th on the Olympian god and goddess. We will also have a test on the prophets of god. They have been reviewing the material in class by playing concentration.We will complete a project on The Greek Trireme.



Ask your child about the surprise Tea Party. They really enjoyed it, but they did not enjoy the Turkish Delight.

January 4-8, 2016 Mrs. Carroll

In Chemistry, we are reviewing the structure of the atom as well as the periodic table of elements. This will help us take the next step in chemistry to learn about how and why atoms bond.

In Bible, we are learning about five genres of psalms, as written mostly by David:  psalms of praise, thanksgiving, confession, lament, and imprecation (revenge on enemies!)  We will read examples of each genre, and journal/illustrate them.
