ELA - Week of January 25th-29th

This week in Practice Island we will be working and discussing sentences 21-30. There will be a test on Friday. The test will be sentences 21,25,26,29,30.

Spelling Words:
1.   ramped – to stand threateningly with raised forelegs
      2.    repulsive – disgusting
      3.    gaiety – celebration –merry-making
      4.    vermin – common harmful animal
      5.    glade – an open space surrounded by woods
     6.    gluttony – excess in eating or drinking
     7.    kingfisher – a brightly colored bird
     8.    thrush – a small songbird
     9.    pavilion – a large luxurious tent   
    10.   Alsatian – a large dog, commonly called a German Shepherd                
    11.   quiver – a container for holding arrows
    12.   consideration -  careful thought, something that is kept in mind in making a decision

Spelling Tic –Tac- Toe  Week 21
Complete three activities following the rules of tic-tac-toe (three in a row.) Make an “X” on each box that you complete. All activities are due on Friday. Staple all three activities to this sheet.
Spelling Words: ramped, repulsive, gaiety, vermin, glade, gluttony, kingfisher, thrush, pavilion, Alsatian, quiver, consideration

 Write the words across the page and then down the page.

Make a table sorting each spelling word according to parts of speech.
Example:
Dog – noun
Run - verb
Draw and color a picture. Hide the spelling words inside your picture.
Create fractions to represent the number of vowels and consonants in each word.
Example: friend
Vowels =2/6
Consonants = 4/6
Write the words in reverse ABC order
Make an acrostic poem with each spelling word.
Example: read
Red
Elephant
Ant
Dog

Write the words and then write at least 2 words made from each.     
Example: friend
                dine
                end
Write the spelling words in the form of shapes. You can use more than one word to make a shape.
Write a question for each of the spelling words. Underline or highlight the spelling words.
