Project for "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe"

Below are the instructions and the rubric for the project due on March 4th.

Create a two-sided model – of the Wardrobe and Narnia

Use two matching hinged shoe boxes.

Before gluing the bottom of the two boxes together, cut a “door”  that will open inwardly in the bottom of each so that when the two boxes are glued together, the doors will match. Make sure that the hinge part of  each shoe box opens down to sit on the table in front of each of the boxes. Decorate the inside of Shoe box #1 to look like the inside of the wardrobe. Wardrobe sides were often covered with pretty wall-paper. For the clothes rod, use a small wooden dowel rod. Hang clothes on coat hangers made from bended wire or an old coat hanger. Hang clothes on the hangers. You can use doll clothes or make them using a catalog picture or draw them on paper. Some fur hanging would be wonderful.

Shoe box #2 will open out into Narnia. The snowy scene with the pine trees and the lamppost that Lucy first sees. You can use small dolls and little trees you might have at home; cardboard  figures that you draw and color, that will stand up (put a triangular piece of folded card stock on one side of the figure so that it will stand on the bottom side of the triangle, or you can draw your figures on paper or construction paper and use those in your scene.

Cardboard Model of Cair Paravel by the Sea

The castle can be made out of things you have at home:  paper towel rolls for the turrets of the Gatehouse; pieces of cardboard painted to look like the sides of a castle, with crenelations at the top, and windows and death holes in the sides. You can google “Cardboard Castle Templates” and get more ideas. Make sure that it is “by the sea” as described in the book on page 181. Your flags should be Narnia’s coat of arms. You can also do a Goggle search for this.

                    

A 3-dimensional diorama – made from a shoe box or box

Create your favorite scene from the book. It needs to include the details described in the book and look as much like the real scene as possible.

                         

Along with this diorama, you must include a written description of what the scene is about and why it is you favorite scene.

Each project needs to have a written report explaining  your project and the role it played in the story.
