ELA - Week of 10/26 - 10/30

Note: ***Friday October 30th Canterbury Faire - Early Release
          *** Students are writing a story using their Grammar Island book - page 94. This is due on Monday the 26th.
          *** Spelling and Vocabulary test will be Tuesday Nov. 3rd. Spelling activities will also be due on that day.

This week we will identify the subject and predicate of a sentence and the direct object and indirect in a sentence.

Spelling and Vocabulary Words
Week 11 – October 26th-30th

1. magician – an entertainer who is skilled in producing illusion by sleight of hand
2. nephew – son of a sibling
3. bachelor – an unmarried man
4. grubby - dirty
5. ought – duty or obligation
6. rafter – any one of a set of sloping beams that form the framework of a roof
7. coiner –a person who makes counterfeit coins
8. cistern – a tank for storing water
9. polite – being respectful and considerate of other people
10. tousled – messy or unkempt hair
11. feeble – weak
12. smuggler – to import or export goods secretly in violation of the law
13.serious – important
14. dingy – gloomy, dull

15.deserted – empty of people

Homework: Write the words 3 times - each night. In addition do the following activities.
 Write a friendly letter using at least 10 of the spelling words. Make sure you have all the parts of the letter. (must complete this activity)
Than choose 2.
(1) Draw a picture hiding the spelling words in the  picture.
(2)  Write statement sentences for 8 of the words and questions sentences for the other 7 words. There must be (5) words in a sentence. Use correct punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. Underline the spelling word. Do Not start any of the sentences with  an "A" or "The"
(3) Write your spelling words by adding one letter at a time.
